On the occasion of the launch of the digital book Inhabiting the uncertainty of a showcase featuring the first two seasons of its Vitrine, TOPO inaugurated a fundraising exhibition of digital prints on archival paper with the artists that showcased their work during this period (2015-2017). À la fois artiste professionnel, concepteur, intégrateur et technicien, Louis-Robert Bouchard participe depuis près de 15 ans à de nombreux projets liés à la sphère des technologies, du son, de l’image et de la scène au sein de divers compagnies, organismes et collectifs, ainsi qu’aux côtés d’artistes professionnels du milieu de la danse, du théâtre, de la performance, de la musique, de l’art audio, de l’art visuel, de l’art multidisciplinaire, de l’installation audiovisuelle et de la recherche. Au fil de ces collaborations, il s’est imposé comme une référence en matière de création multidisciplinaire expérimentale, de projection vidéo, de spatialisation sonore et d’interactivité. En parallèle à sa pratique professionnelle, il développe activement sa pratique personnelle : artiste pluridisciplinaire, il associe technologies, musique, art audio, vidéo, installation et arts scéniques dans le contexte d’œuvres multidisciplinaires complexes et intelligentes.
Poète, chercheur et créateur tant multidisciplinaire qu’indiscipliné, Thomas Langlois se produit lors de spectacles hybrides liés à la poésie orale et à l’expérimentation théâtrales dont Imanipulaton, …manquante, Lapalissade, 1-800 Visage-s, Carnaval Carnivore et Panpan !. Il a remporté plusieurs distinctions, dont à deux reprises le titre de Champion Slam du Québec (2017 et 2018) et de Vice-champion du monde à la Coupe mondiale de slam de Paris (2018). Cofondateur et créateur actif des collectifs artistiques Dans Ta Tête (DTT) et P’lis d’langue, il est aussi cofondateur et codirecteur général et artistique de JokerJoker, diffuseur nomade de spectacles multidisciplinaires. Il est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en théâtre et d’une maîtrise en Littérature, arts de la scène et de l’écran à l’Université Laval et poursuit actuellement ses études au doctorat.
L’Imanipulaton est une création multidisciplinaire dont l’intention consiste avant toute chose en la rencontre artistique entre poésie orale slamée, performance audio-vidéo-numérique et installation. Les artistes Thomas Langlois (performeur slameur) et Louis-Robert Bouchard (performeur médiatique) explorent les relations possibles entre l’homme moderne et son image numérisée, dans le but d’amener le spectateur à remettre en question les rapports qu’il entretient avec son propre reflet numérisé. Sous forme d’installation numérique autonome, l’œuvre utilise l’ensemble des médias capturés dans les spectacles antérieurs, devenant alors à la fois archive et trace, le reflet d’une image capturée à tout jamais dans le monde numérique.
Transformée en monstre par la mythologie grecque et abusée par la culture patriarcale, puis refondue en cliché littéraire par l’époque actuelle, Méduse, devenue « Hot Gorgone » diluée dans son essence même, explose d’une parole poétique in your face et profondément ambivalente. Tout en dénonçant nos rapports malsains à l’image numérisée (surveillance médiatique poussée à l’extrême, narcissisme exacerbé par les réseaux sociaux, dissolution identitaire dans le numérique), Méduse dénonce au passage la vanité et l’hypocrisie de l’acte même de dénoncer. Hot Gorgone, chimère androgyne, est la témoin de tous les témoins, voyeuse par excellence de son impuissance, notre impuissance. Elle emploie la technologie afin de fixer, d’immortaliser son reflet : elle pousse le cynisme jusqu’à se complaire dans sa sublimation par l’image numérique, un cliché idéalisé d’elle-même, dont elle ne peut détacher ses yeux.

Maxime mélange la pratique commerciale et artistique pour proposer une approche exploratoire et évolutive. Il ne se concentre pas sur un médium ou un sujet en particulier, préférant les défis de la nouveauté. Pour lui, les lieux publics sont des endroits de choix pour diffuser son art. Maxime s’exprime à travers plusieurs médiums, soit la peinture, l’illustration numérique, la photographie, la vidéo et le mapping. Il puise son inspiration dans les sous-cultures, les tendances et la mode. Depuis quelques années, il a développé un intérêt pour le glitch art, les nouvelles technologies et leurs possibilités créatives.

Guillaume place la relation d’interdépendance entre humain et technologie au centre de son travail. Comme outils de création, il priorise la forme brute et les manipulations typographiques, qu’elles soient manuelles ou numériques. Sensible aux enjeux socio-politiques et philosophiques soulevés par les débats humain versus machine, son travail vise à minimiser la distance perçue entre ces deux entités. En effet, il est en recherche constante de façons novatrices d’humaniser la technologie aux yeux du public à travers l’art et les actes de performances interactives.
Les artistes entrevoient la Vitrine de TOPO comme un espace défini dans lequel ils ont le pouvoir de créer un univers, pour ensuite l’observer, le voir changer, grandir ou même s’autodétruire. Leur titre est tiré de l’argument formulé par le philosophe suédois Nick Bostrom sur la simulation : « Running vastly many simulations of human minds would be within the capability of a future civilization ». Dans cet argument, Bostrom émet l’hypothèse que le monde dans lequel nous vivons est en fait une simulation, un univers virtuel créé par des êtres dotés d’une intelligence dépassant largement la nôtre.
Pour illustrer cette théorie, les artistes créent un diorama composé de multiples écrans, offrant chacun au spectateur un point de vue sur un univers simulé. De par ces fenêtres flottant dans un ciel bleu tressé d’animations typographiques, les visiteurs observent des personnages déambulant et s’attardant parfois devant le cadre. Ceux-ci semblent jeter un regard vers l’extérieur, se questionnant sur les mystères du dehors. Mis en scène dans la vitrine, ils ne perçoivent que la surface de leur monde, guettant aux loin des signes d’une potentielle supercherie.

Artiste des arts numériques, des arts visuels et compositeur, Manuel Chantre crée des installations, sculptures, performances et œuvres publiques. Ses œuvres sont présentées par des institutions en arts médiatiques de renommées internationales, des espaces publics, des collections privées et publiques dont celle de la Ville de Montréal.
Depuis 2004, il a diffusé son travail à plus de 70 événements, festivals, ou expositions tels que la Société des arts technologiques (CA), la Biennale d’art numérique (CA), l’Espace Desjardins (CA), Mutek (CA), le Mapping Festival (CH), Filux Festival (MX), Elektra (CA), File Electronic Language International Festival (BR), le Mois Multi (CA), le Festival de la Imagen (COL), Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (CA), le Festival du Nouveau cinema (CA), Steim (NL), Videopool (CA), PAVED Art (CA), le Cegep André-Laurendeau (CA), l’Agence Topo (CA) et Sight and sound (CA).
Son travail propose un univers fictif à la fois sensoriel et narratif, tout en explorant la mémoire, l’identité ainsi que les espaces habités, imaginés et immatériels fabriqués par l’être humain.
Chantre détient un baccalauréat en anthropologie sociale et culturelle de l’Université Laval, un baccalauréat en beaux-arts et en musique électroacoustique de l’Université Concordia et a aussi étudié l’électronique et la programmation.
L’oeuvre est une édition revisitée de l’impression qui fait parti de l’installation musicale-immersive-interactive La partition des corps, une œuvre dédiée aux mélodies qui portent nos mémoires.

Née en Jamaïque d’une mère française et d’un père jamaïquain, Olivia Mc Gilchrist et sa famille quittent les Caraïbes quand elle avait quatre ans. L’artiste y retourne pour y vivre et travailler (2011-2014). Depuis, sa pratique explore les notions de translocation et d’identité culturelle à travers sa double nationalité franco-caribéenne. Inspirée des espaces où elle a vécu et travaillé, elle superpose des réalités parallèles à travers la photographie, les installations vidéo et la réalité virtuelle. Elle se réapproprie les éléments appartenant au domaine de « l’exotique » puis elle les reconfigure et recartographie pour évoquer l’hybridation complexe des identités.
Olivia Mc Gilchrist a complété une maitrise en photographie au London College of Communication (2010), une formation en Design and Computation Arts (2014-2015). Elle poursuit actuellement un doctorat en arts, éducation et technologies immersives à l’Université Concordia.
Sa pratique s’intéresse aux nouvelles formes de narration visuelle immersive et à leur capacité en tant qu’expression créative de subvertir les réalités raciales, sociales et sexuelles, telles qu’elles sont catégorisées, classifiées et discriminées à travers le prisme non-occidental des Caraïbes contemporaines et de sa diaspora. Son travail s’intéresse à la performance en direct, à la poésie et à l’eau comme territoires d’immersion ouvrant sur des expériences contemplatives et interactives. À l’intersection entre l’art institutionnel et l’art populaire, elle amalgame l’art traditionnel de la transmission orale et l’installation vidéo et elle s’inspire des commentaires sur YouTube pour créer de nouveaux environnements et des expériences de réalité virtuelle.
Islands (îles) sont des métaphores pour des espaces physiques condensés dans lesquels nous sommes conscients des limites de nos environnements de vie. En transposant cette notion à une expérience immersive de réalité virtuelle (installation sculpturale), nous invitons les participants à naviguer à travers un archipel de rencontres possibles dans une collection de performances captées sur vidéo 360 et de sons déconstruits qui habitent ces îles imaginaires. Submergé dans une réalité virtuelle, l’expérience sensorielle ISLAND devient un outil de décodage de pratiques expérimentales au sein d’un contexte d’installation immersive.

Natacha Clitandre a complété en 2000 un B.A. en arts visuels de l’UQAM et l’université Concordia. Elle a ensuite étudié le design graphique à l’École de Design de l’UQAM. Elle a complété en 2007 un Master en Théorie et pratique de l’art contemporain et des nouveaux médias à l’Université Paris 8 et à l’ENSAD. Dans le cadre de ce cycle d’études, elle a effectué un séjour à Brown University et RISD, Providence, RI.
Ses œuvres ont été présentées dans différentes villes européennes et nord-américaines. Elle vit actuellement à Montréal, où elle travaille à la fois comme artiste et coordonnatrice à la programmation du centre d’artistes Studio XX.
Photo tirée de Spectrographies du territoire, démarche propose d’explorer de l’intérieur un secteur en pleine mutation, marqué en son centre par le chantier du Campus MIL de l’Université de Montréal.
Lors de balades exploratoires, des citoyens et citoyennes d’Outremont, de la Petite-Patrie et de Parc-Extension ont été conviés à aborder leur environnement en s’attardant aux détails urbanistiques que l’on y trouve et qui symbolisent leur relation au territoire.

Artiste multidisciplinaire des arts visuels, médiatiques et des nouveaux médias interactifs, Marie-Hélène est originaire de la Ville de Québec. Elle est détentrice d’une maîtrise de l’Université du Québec à Montréal en arts visuels et médiatiques avec des formations parallèles en danse, musique, cinéma/vidéo et programmation data flow. Son travail artistique a été présenté dans plusieurs évènements nationaux et internationaux, en Europe, en Asie, au Canada, aux États-Unis et au Maroc.

Fluxus∞ est une œuvre à la fois poétique et engagée qui se présente tel un baromètre quotidien des changements de paradigmes de notre époque et de notre interrelation à l’environnement. Fluxus∞ interroge l’impact des citoyens sur le positionnement de nos sociétés en regard de l’environnement. L’œuvre met à l’honneur des paysages d’Anticosti qui sont modifiés par le flux de données de l’actualité environnementale et énergétique sur Twitter et par la présence des personnes près du mur vidéo. Fluxus∞ a été réalisée grâce à une commande d’oeuvre du Conseil des arts du Canada suite à un concours national pour être présentée en 2015-2016 sur son immense mur vidéo dans le grand hall de l’organisme à Ottawa.

Par une approche multidisciplinaire en art action, en arts visuels et en arts médiatiques, Marie-Claude Gendron tente de dégager les schèmes d’une collectivité qui s’actualise constamment dans les sphères du public, du privé et de l’intime. Elle adopte ainsi la posture d’une ethnographe provisoire qui témoigne de l’objet de ses observations par une pratique heuristique et contextuelle. Gendron s’intéresse particulièrement à la potentialité transgressive d’espaces limitrophes et à la notion trouble de frontière, à la fois imaginaires et physiques, fictives ou réelles. De l’ordre de la commémoration brute, ses projets sont des tentatives perpétuelles de figer l’impermanence et de souligner le caractère inéluctable du temps qui passe par la poésie en action. De ce fait, elle met en exergue l’inévitable transformation de l’existant.
Née à Québec, Marie-Claude Gendron développe une pratique interdisciplinaire en performance, interventions in socius, vidéo, collage et art numérique. En plus de s’impliquer dans l’organisation d’événements performatifs autogérés, elle a participé à plusieurs résidences, expositions et événements au Québec, au Brésil, au Mexique, en France, en Italie, en Irlande du Nord, en Suisse et en Thaïlande. Son travail a fait l’objet de présentations solos et collectives à la Galerie de l’UQAM (Montréal, CAN), au Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (Bangkok,TH), au Museo de medicinal laboral (Real del Monte, MX), à la Galerie des arts visuels (Québec, CAN) et dans le cadre du RIAP 2012 et 2014 (rencontres internationales d’art performance, Le Lieu, Québec, CAN). Elle s’intéresse aux différentes formes de poésie en action et à leur actualisation par le corps et l’écrit.
« Une histoire de l’immédiat [en cinq actes] » raconte un récit en cinq jours qui a brouillé les limites de la surface écranique.
Dans son « atelier de l’éphémère » sur une table de travail placée devant la Vitrine de TOPO, Marie-Claude Gendron a réalisé une collection de cinq documents qui ont été mis en action en cinq actes, sur une période de cinq jours. Des archives personnelles classées par associations poétiques (une collection de notes, d’images, de photographies, de dessins, de collages, de citations et d’aphorismes) ont constituée une encyclopédie du possible en cinq chapitres.
L’action posé par l’artiste traduit le réflexe de classifier, propre à l’être humain, dans le but d’analyser ou de mieux comprendre un flot perpétuel d’images, d’impressions et de réminiscences qui assiègent notre conscience. Notre présent, depuis le numérique, a peut-être disparu ou, au contraire, s’est décuplé à l’infini.
Résolument critique, la posture de l’artiste a visé à valoriser l’espace-temps de la création qui oeuvre plus souvent qu’autrement dans l’imaginaire de la paperasse transmise à nos instances. Comme le mentionne si bien Boris Nielsony, l’artiste a installé « sa table-paradis dans une cathédrale, dans un lieu qui par les cultes de la transformation et une atmosphère, créent du temps. » [1]

Les pratiques combinées des artistes interdisciplinaires Alexis O’Hara & Atom Cianfarani comprennent des interventions urbaines, des installations, des performances sonores, des sculptures lumineuses et la conception d’infrastructures vertes.
Ce duo est particulièrement dédié à la subversion spatiale, le sauvetage des déchets et la renaissance d’objets. Et tu, Machine s’engage à détourner les paysages urbains et les situations sociales pour créer des circonstances qui mettent en valeur l’esprit anarcho-écolo du Queer Imagineering (génie imaginaire queer).
Et tu, Machine s’engage à créer des projets qui fusionnent les objectifs parallèles de la sensibilisation à l’environnement et le renforcement des liens communautaires interpersonnels. Alors que cette alliance est naissante, individuellement, Cianfarani et O’Hara ont des décennies d’expérience dans la production d’œuvres d’art et de projets de design à grande échelle.
À la veille du projet de loi fédéral C-45, en vigueur le 17 octobre 2018, légalisant la consommation récréative du cannabis, les artistes ont transformé la Vitrine de TOPO en une chambre de culture.
CULTURE cherche à célébrer les racines psychédéliques et insoumises de cette plante tout en examinant les paramètres juridiques dans lesquels elle sera bientôt contrôlée par le biais d’une loi de 152 pages détaillant ses modes de distribution et de consommation.
Poteuses assumées, les artistes examinent l’espace liminaire que le statut de la marijuana occupe actuellement et les schismes sociaux que la légalisation entraînera. Bien que pro-légalisation, elles sont préoccupées par l’opportunisme des sociétés privées de production et de distribution en collusion avec l’État.

Daniel Iregui est un artiste médiatique qui emploie les technologies comme vecteur d’un nouveau langage visuel. Il travaille avec les combinaisons infinies et aléatoires que peuvent produire les systèmes numériques une fois manipulés par le public. Né à Bogotá, Daniel Iregui vit et travaille à Montréal. Il est le fondateur d’Iregular, une jeune société centrée sur le contenu interactif. Le travail d’Iregui, souvent signé de son pseudonyme Iregular, a été présenté à travers le monde, notamment à la BIAN de Montréal, au Festival de Mapping de Genève, au MAB de Copenhague, à MUTEK Montréal, à MUTEK Mexico, à la Biennale des Arts Numériques d’Enghien-Les-Bains, au Glow Festival d’Eindhoven, au L.E.V. Festival de Gijòn, au Shuó Taikoo Li de Beijing et au FACT à Liverpool. Sa première exposition solo SPECTRAL EXITANCE a été présentée au Van Abbemuseum de Eindhoven en 2015.
RIVER 5 est une version hyper détaillée du visuel créé pour RIVER, une sculpture interactive permanente. Les visuels sont créent par un algorithme générant constamment des motifs de façon aléatoire et infinie. Cette image capture un moment dans l’élaboration de ces motifs et nous permet d’être témoin d’un moment qui autrement serait éphémère.
La pièce originale, RIVER, est constituée d’une sculpture de mesh et d’un motif généré par logiciel. Influencé par la date, l’heure, le jour de la semaine ainsi que les sons environnants, elle réagit à l’environnement, cherchant à représenter son évolution perpétuelle.
Cette oeuvre a été commissionnée par Desjardins pour occuper de façon permanente leurs bureaux du Centre-Ville de Montréal.

Philippe Boisnard interroge depuis de nombreuses années la constitution de l’homme à travers la matérialité des codes et des représentations liées à la dimension aussi bien politique, que sociale ou économique. Il a écrit plusieurs livres et essais, et faits de nombreuses conférences en France et à l’étranger.
Depuis 2008, il crée des installations numériques telles After Fukushima, phAUTOmaton, Translations, Shape_of_ memory, Words City, présentées nationalement ou internationalement. Il a travaillé pour des créations numériques théâtrales (Festival d’Avignon, La Villette, Théâtre des Tanneurs à Bruxelles). Il est aussi commissaire d’exposition en art technologique (Access, Les Bains numériques, …) Il a obtenu en 2007 le prix multimédia de la Société des gens de Lettres de France (SGDL), et en 2013 le trophée art aux voeux de l’internet (Le Cube).
Un paysage sans reste d’humanité se crée de manière continue. Il est un reflet poétique d’une terre dont nulle conscience n’est plus témoin. Il y a eu destruction. Cette terre, c’est Fukushima. Elle est désolée. Il ne reste qu’un paysage sombre, sans hommes, sans faune ou flore. Seuls quelques vestiges de constructions peuvent apparaître.
Ce paysage se modifie automatiquement par l’analyse des flux d’informations concernant Fukushima mis en ligne sur le Web. Ce paysage est post-historique. Il n’écrit plus l’histoire. Il est le reflet d’un monde où l’homme a disparu, mais dont il ne reste plus que les traces sous la forme d’archives. Une caméra automatique explore ce paysage : nous faisons face à sa solitude. Le terme de solitude est ancien, il renvoie au XVIIème siècle à une friche, à un no man’s land.

Philippe Boisnard interroge depuis de nombreuses années la constitution de l’homme à travers la matérialité des codes et des représentations liées à la dimension aussi bien politique, que sociale ou économique. Il a écrit plusieurs livres et essais, et faits de nombreuses conférences en France et à l’étranger.
Depuis 2008, il crée des installations numériques telles After Fukushima, phAUTOmaton, Translations, Shape_of_ memory, Words City, présentées nationalement ou internationalement. Il a travaillé pour des créations numériques théâtrales (Festival d’Avignon, La Villette, Théâtre des Tanneurs à Bruxelles). Il est aussi commissaire d’exposition en art technologique (Access, Les Bains numériques, …) Il a obtenu en 2007 le prix multimédia de la Société des gens de Lettres de France (SGDL), et en 2013 le trophée art aux voeux de l’internet (Le Cube).
Un paysage sans reste d’humanité se crée de manière continue. Il est un reflet poétique d’une terre dont nulle conscience n’est plus témoin. Il y a eu destruction. Cette terre, c’est Fukushima. Elle est désolée. Il ne reste qu’un paysage sombre, sans hommes, sans faune ou flore. Seuls quelques vestiges de constructions peuvent apparaître.
Ce paysage se modifie automatiquement par l’analyse des flux d’informations concernant Fukushima mis en ligne sur le Web. Ce paysage est post-historique. Il n’écrit plus l’histoire. Il est le reflet d’un monde où l’homme a disparu, mais dont il ne reste plus que les traces sous la forme d’archives. Une caméra automatique explore ce paysage : nous faisons face à sa solitude. Le terme de solitude est ancien, il renvoie au XVIIème siècle à une friche, à un no man’s land.

Born in Boisbriand, Isabelle Gagné is a pioneer of mobile art in Canada. It was in 2009 that she naturally turned to mobile devices as a medium of artistic expression. Strongly fueled by its digital environment, she is particularly interested in Quebec’s contemporary natural landscape, an enunciative marker of heritage. Her research is multiplatform, drawing its raw material in photos, screenshots, and even accidents (graphics) found on the Internet.
Stratotype digital-ien is an autonomous computer robot (a bot) that randomly recomposes images of the Quebec landscape. He transforms the photos taken by the artist Isabelle Gagné and those collected from citizens. In original photographs, the bot adds extracts of images of similar geomorphological nature found on Google Image, creating a new generation of images. The modified images create unusual visual occurrences of Québec territory on the web and search engines.

Simon Dumas. At the same time poet and artist, he has published five titles of poetry: Pastels fauves (Loup de gouttière Ed.2001), Petites îles de soif (Écrits des forges, 2003), La chute fut lente, interminable puis terminée (La Peuplade Ed., 2008) – finalist for the Alain-Grandbois prize – as well as Mélanie (2013) and Révélations (2016) at the Éditions de l’Hexagone. He has accomplished a writing residency in Mexico City in 2010 and another in Paris in the fall of 2014. He is co-founder and artistic director of Productions Rhizome whose mandate is to produce literary shows. He lives and works in Quebec City.
Mickaël Lafontaine. Multidisciplinary artist, his creative universe is at the crossroads of the real and the digital, of art and social. His artistic practice is based on video art, video-mapping, dance, poetry and philosophy. He uses video projection and interactivity to embody digital in the real world and make it live in the hands of the viewer. In parallel, he develops co-creation projects in educational and associative environments where art and new technologies become factors of social change. He lives and works between the cities of Nantes and Montreal.
The work is taken from installation Choeur(s) pour castelet. The project is basically born of an installation whose heart is made of poetry. In the window, in the center of a small black tray, stands a number of characters. It is the inhabitants of a particular castle, men and women, who challenge the visitor. They are poets from Quebec and Belgium. Delayed poetic presences and reduced to the proportions of the castelet, which presents original texts and their authors, each associated with an audio artist. A video creation designed specifically for the device is added to each duo, as well as a dynamic typographic animation created by the artist Mickaël Lafontaine, who uses a tool-work he has developed: the Audiographe. The poet’s voice modulates the typographic animations created.
Choeurs (s) is an installation of variable configuration and a tablet application developed with the collaboration of the artist and developer Louis-Robert Bouchard. A Rhizome production presented by TOPO with the support of the NT2 Laboratory and the Mobile Literature Research Group.

Sarah Chouinard-Poirier. In her works, the multidisciplinary artist physically puts herself into play and develops performances in which presence, gesture, speech and object combine to create a radical experience and a feminist and resistant mythology. Acting between theater and action art, she is also involved in collective projects where she participates in the creation of interdisciplinary theatrical forms anchored in bodywork and performativity, based on contemporary writings or texts from directory. Since 2012, she coordinates the activities of Volte 21, a multidisciplinary art organization of which she is co-founder. She lives and works in Montreal.
In February 2017, Sarah Chouinard-Poirier presented the indexE project in the TOPO showcase. indexE raises the question of the place of women in literature, using orality as a mean of sharing and transmission. The artist brought together an ad hoc community of 100 people identifying themselves as women, trans or queer person, by asking them to propose a book of particular importance in their life. This indexE of these 100 works to be kept unforgotten will be exhibited in the window display throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Jean-René Leblanc and Carl Spencer. Calgary-based artists, their collaboration on the artwork Toro Embistiendo was commissioned by the French CBC to be presented as a documentary as part of the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede. It was also featured in the web documentary series Cowboy: a Canadian Dream in 2013. They are both actively involved in the arts community as Board Directors at Emmedia Gallery and Production Society and co-founders of the Sensorium Lab, a cross-disciplinary research group focusing on artistic research that develops systems of interaction that encourage kinesthetic perception and interpretation. Their practice explores the relationship between technology and culture through issues related to interactivity. Their artworks individually have been presented in Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Toro embistiendo explores the image of the bull as emblematic figure of the culture of the rodeo and the cowboys in Canada. The title uses the Spanish language to refer to the bull that charges, an explicit reference to bullfighting so present in the Hispanic culture. This installation explores the game of the confrontation between the spectator and the video of a bull in his enclosure which begins to load when it is excited by passing in front of the showcase where the work is presented. Leblanc and Spencer propose a playful and metaphorical installation using interactivity to create a bridge between the real and the virtual.

Élène Tremblay (1962-2016). Through photography, video and mechanized installation, her work explored the recurring questions of the failure of contact in the simulacrum, the vulnerable and pathetic body in its posture, the call to the spectator’s empathy, the false address and the dramatization of the gaze of spectator.
Holder of a doctorate in Arts Studies and Practices from the Université du Québec à Montréal, she has published in 2013 L’insistance du regard sur le corps éprouvé, pathos et contre-pathos (éditions FORUM Ed., collection Cinethesis, Udine, Italy). Professor in the Department of Art History and Film Studies at the Université de Montréal, she has been previously director of programming at Espace Vox in Montreal and curator of several exhibitions.
The image comes from the video work Effets du vent sur un petit arbre décoratif. A small tree is subjected to the increasingly powerful wind of a wind tunnel. The tree remains rooted even though its branches tilt almost horizontally.
The sarcastic and reflective approach of the video illustrates the quite natural disturbance of the wind but through an artificial intervention. This video was produced in a scientific engineering laboratory that is usually used to measure the impact of wind on buildings (Wind Tunnel Lab, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Concordia University).

Julien-Robert is a multi-disciplinary artist who explores the relationships between sound and image. He creates audio-visual performances and installations enriched by his experiences throughout his musical journey. He began his studies in instrumental and electroacoustic composition before expanding his artistic expertise to include video creation and interactive devices. During the creation process, he pays particular attention to the staging of his works in order to devise the most complete and authentic experiences possible for the audience. He has composed the music for several dance, short film, and theatre performances presented in various festivals around the world. Currently, he is working in collaboration with Julien Compagne to combine music, video and technology, transforming the three elements into a new artistic form that is the foundation of their group Video Phase.
Fit in the Crowd is an interactive triptych video installation illustrating some aspects of urban life. With images projected in the manner of a blinding strobe, the work evokes the oversaturation of messages to which we are exposed every day and suggests moments of comfort, of refuge, where life stops for a moment. It thus questions the space we inhabit, in an urban environment, in relation to the comfort it gives us by its anonymity.

Maxime Boisvert has a background in both visual arts and photography. He is currently applying for a Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts at UQAM. His work has been presented at the Parameter (2015/2016) and Short Exposure exhibitions, among others. Boisvert is the recipient of many awards and scholarships, including those of excellence Mc Abbie, Omer DeSerres, Thomas Corriveau and Mario Côté. Its production is supported by the UQAM FARE recruitment excellence scholarship. In his practice, Boisvert amalgamates Quebec history, culture and literature. Her approach is driven by a desire to discover and question her heritage in order to register and continue by participating. Photography and text are the main tools of his research. However, he tries to vary the approaches in which they are used and thus to exploit in a different way their power of evocation. His projects are related elements, whose purpose is to put them in dialogue and see what emerges from it. In his practice, he uses as raw material the existing elements of Quebec culture, on the one hand as a source of inspiration and on the other hand to pay tribute to them, question them and update them.
A typist, connected to a computer, autonomously and continuously taps poetry generated live by an algorithm inspired by Markov chains. The source text, used by the JavaScript code to create poetry, is composed of the works of two French-Canadian poets, Saint-Denys Garneau and Alain Grandbois. Although they are poles apart from each other on many levels, they have both been of paramount importance in the genesis of Quebec literature. The poetry generated from Regards et jeux dans l’espace of Saint-Denys Garneau on the one hand and collections The islands of the Night and Shores of the man of Alain Grandbois is typed in the “infinite” by the typist on a sheet of continuous paper. Reconciling them through this project is a way of questioning their heritage, their impact on our culture and what they say about it, and therefore, what they say about us. As Pierre Nepveu says in his book on the genesis of Quebec literature, Garneau and Grandbois are among those poets who are “now perceived as both symptoms and lighthouses, used to trace or develop the history of Quebec. as myth and destiny, as a psychic adventure or as an existential project (an unfortunate project, aborted, to be rephrased, and to be totally taken up again). “This project has thus become a pretext for a re-reading of these poets, perhaps to their actualization and their reappropriation.

Santiago Tavera is an interdisciplinary digital artist born in Colombia. He migrated to Canada at a young age where he began his exploration of digital culture in relation to the experience of a transcultural body. Santiago uses digital media as a tool for experimentation that can simulate a state of disembodiment. His creative-research explores digital media and its capacity to alter visual and spatial perception. His work examines viewers’ sensory stimulation within the digital realm and the physical one, exploring the effects digital media has on social interactions, communicational skills, inhabitation of spaces and notions of time. Santiago’s digital drawings and designs work as blueprints for potential immersive installations and interactive projects. He constructs digital architectural environments, where there is a constant translation between digital and physical lines, lights and colours.
Santiago holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) with a Specialization in Visual Arts and a Major in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. He is currently completing his Masters in Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, where he currently resides.
Models of Spatial Fictions is a series of digital animations from the Translational Spaces project. These graphic animations are designated by the artist as digital architectural environments within virtual landscapes. The visual plot is based on diagrams, cartoons, models of virtual architectures and drawings of structures in transition that explore the temporal and spatial movement of shadows and lights. It is a set of tables and dynamic spaces mainly composed of graphic and three-dimensional forms evoking places of memory, imagination, desire and dream, real or invented spaces. These animations are reflected in the website www.dssots.com, where the artist associates short fictional texts around the translation * of forms and identities in real and virtual spaces.

As a new media artist Joseph Lefebvre creates interactive installations, web art projects and live visual performances. His digital and interactive works have been presented at various international events and festivals such as Siggraph, ISEA Montreal, Cyberart Bilbao and Netart Sao Paulo. He holds two master’s degrees in Visual arts and Communications from the Université du Québec à Montréal. He works at the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) since its founding in 1995 where he is currently the director of the residency program and the coordinator of the SAT[MixSessions] and Digital Factory activities. He lives and works in Montreal.
The exhibition “Une curieuse vitrine” was composed of a multitude of intriguing and heterogeneous objects as well as colorful projections that animated geometric volumes.
At the heart of this festive atmosphere, we discover a complex world where horror strangely rubs shoulders with frivolity: photos of Senegalese and Moroccan riflemen dead for a nation that is not theirs, piled human skulls in salt dough that refer to the genocide operated by the Khmer Rouge. In this work, the artist remixes, often in a traditional way, various objects, memories and elements of culture that are dear to him and transmits facts to us in a committed, sensitive and clairvoyant way.

Born in Los Angeles, Oli Sorenson has lived and worked in London (UK) between 1999 and 2010, to combine his artistic activities with curatorial work (including several events at Tate Britain, the Institute of Contemporary Art and the British Film Institute). Sorenson has often exhibited internationally, including at the Millennium Museum (Beijing), the Media Art Institute (Amsterdam), ZKM (Karlsruhe) and DokFest (Kassel). He performs regularly in media festivals such as ISEA (Helsinki and Nagoya), Mapping Festival (Geneva) and MAF (Bangkok). He is now based in Montreal, Canada since 2010.
As a remix artist, Sorenson defines his practice by subverting preconceptions of originality and singular authorship, an approach that is often delivered via media performance projects in festive and collaborative contexts. His explorations are fed particularly by a fascination for the overabundance of content and information available online, as much as a critique of the strict copyright rules imposed on mechanically and digitally reproducible media.
The Pistoletto Video project is a continuation of my recent remix work, which involves borrowing the creative gesture of other artists to direct them towards materials and issues that have not yet been explored by these authors. Here I destroy LCD screens in the same way that Michelangelo Pistoletto breaks his big mirrors. I’m tackling technological materials to produce a multitude of performance artifacts, such as those broken LCD screen photos.

Steve Heimbecker. Artist, composer and creator of multi-channel sound systems. Conceptually his work is based upon his fascination with the architecture of space and the measurement of time within space including his natural inclination toward cross-modal representation. His installations, compositions and performances have been presented across Canada, Europe, New York City, and Peru, and are included in such public collections as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Alberta Art Foundation, and the Foothills Hospital Foundation. He lives and works in the Eastern Townships of Québec.
The work is one of the many neologisms created by the artist for his series of multi-screen installations and performance poetry Ripaliper, METAFIVE and Notes realized between 2012 and 2016. Taberneige was written by the artist on March 16, 2014 and was then scanned and scanned for use in its digital productions and prints.

Originally from Argentina and based in Chicago, Pat Badani is an international artist with a master’s degree in Visual arts from the Art Institute of Chicago. As a practitioner, researcher, professor, editor and curator, she is interested in the relationship between new media and the social sphere. Her conceptual and contextual practice is articulated through artistic creation, research and writing on subjects such as housing, transculturality, the migration movements of the population and a development-oriented way of life sustainable.
Her work has been presented in North and South America, Europe and Asia. She has participated in many international symposia and her writings have been published internationally, and she has received numerous awards and honors. Badani is currently a professor of integrated media at the Illinois State University School of Art; Acting Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program in Media Arts at Columbia College, Chicago; editor-in-chief of Media-N Journal, the New Media Caucus; and guest editor of “Artelogie”, EHESS (France). Since January 2017, she sits on the Board of Directors of ISEA International.
With this work, Badani emphasizes his apprehension about privacy and personal space in a surveillance context. Paule Marcus wrote about the work: “With make-A-move, it is the creative and playful potential of surveillance that is staged. The possibility of subjectivity within this process is revived by close-up portraits and the intimate distance they impose. Through this work, Pat Badani invites us to think of surveillance as something that can be re-appropriated to shape a public space to the benefit of its many singularities. “
The work was designed and produced by Pat Badani during a residency at TOPO, in co-production with Art Souterrain, Montreal, whose 2015 edition was about safety, and with the support of Patrice Coulombe (technical advisor) and Paul Gascou-Vaillancourt (production assistant).

Audrey-Maude McDuff received a master’s degree in Visual Arts from Concordia University in 2014. She creates installations combining drawing and video that reflect on time, the appearance and disappearance of the image and the deployment of thought. Her work has been presented in several individual and collective exhibitions, including Agence Topo, Art Mûr Gallery, the Société des arts technologiques (SAT), and several editions of Montreal’s Nuit Blanche. She has also exhibited in the United States, Italy and Belgium. She lives and works in Montreal.
Carnets de capture is a video installation in which the notebook, the workshop and the deployment of thought are at the heart of the concerns. Between drawing, video and performative gestures, this work questions the close link between a thought and its support. The work reflects on the conditions of emergence of an image or an idea. It presents an attempt to “capture” a fleeting thought. This desire to want to “seize” is definitely a failure. To follow the multitude of ideas that pass through our heads, images are formed, transformed, but do not remain.

He is the recipient of several local, provincial and national grants and awards. His multifaceted background and conceptual vision of art led him to found a series of open-ended projects such as: Conspiration H1N1, Projet Citoyen Modèle, Édifice H. Nadeau pour la poésie, LHN (Ligue Hugo Nadeau) and C.A.C.H.E. (Centre d’Art Caché d’Hugo pour l’Éternité) in order to pursue a certain artistic autonomy. He is originally from Saint-Zacharie in Chaudière-Appalaches and currently lives in Montreal.

In “Danser” characters cookies tell myths behavior: dancing and fighting, they end up breaking every time – they were changing the species starting over. In “dormir”, sleep three fingers in the water under the eye of a black cow, how to be human, scoured by the elements, enchanted by the world’s perception, or awakened by a cop, prey, chase or poor.

Switching is a different type of film that paves the way for new storytelling methods. Switching was specially developed for DVD video. The fascination with interactive expression basically originates in its potential to depict a more fragmented form of reality. The user of this film enters a narrative labyrinth simultaneously unfolding and disrupting the story. A film is now something you can change by touching it. Film has become “pliable”.
There are three element that explain why Switching departs form the linear form. The first is that the film can be changed at any time. Consequently, the user can jump back and forth in time and location. The second is the fact that interface and content are not divided; in order words, the screen has no buttons to click – the interface is transparent. The film itself is the clickable object. Accordingly, linear control and logic disappear. The third element is teh fact that the narrative is structured around a circular system in which everything repeats itself. So it has no ending. The film continues forever in its circular universe.

Male or Female (MorF), is the eagerly anticipated project from legendary Belgian producers Daniel Bressanuti and Patrick Codenys of electronica pioneers Front 242, with musician/vocalist Elko Blijweert. In each zone, you explore the city differently. Four entrances, four ways of looking, four structural devices.
