TOPO, the Montreal-based artist-run center for the digital arts, has launched a new call for projects for its 2024-2026 artistic programming. Both established and emerging artists with a digital arts practice were invited to submit a project in one of the following three options:
OPTION 1: an installation project for TOPO’s window display,
OPTION 2: a co-production project to be developed with TOPO,
OPTION 3: a project involving public participation.
TOPO seeks proposals offering engaged discourses integrating text, image or sound in their physical, visual or social dimensions. Proposals may include both an installation component and a web dimension that extends the experience into virtual space. Projects addressing issues of cultural mediation to encourage citizen participation may be developed with the organization’s support.
TOPO’s mission is to assist and equip artists in their exploration of contemporary digital art practices. As a production and dissemination center, TOPO will consider with as much attention experimental, work-in-progress and finalized projects.
TOPO encourages submissions from artists who identify with indigenousness, diversity in all its forms, or who have an atypical background.
OPTION 1: Window display
Topo’s window display is ideal for small interactive media installations: it is a 12 sq. m. (125 sq. ft.) glazed space located in the corridor on the first floor of the Pôle de Gaspé; home to commercial, cultural and artistic spaces, including nine artist-run dissemination and production centers. Within this environment, the window captures attention and provokes various reflections around the occupation of space and in situ production. Proposals can include both an installation component and a web dimension to extend the experience into virtual space.

OPTION 2: Co-production project
The center offers to support a limited number of research-creation projects, with various forms of production and dissemination support, to be defined on a case-by-case basis. This could involve personalized accompaniment, residencies, web development, etc.
OPTION 3: Citizen participation
Participative projects may require a longer-term reciprocal commitment from the artist and the organization. Project support may be conditional on dedicated funding for cultural mediation projects.
