About the Cuban Hat Project
The Cuban Hat Project is non-profit initiative started in 2009 by indie filmmakers Diego Briceño and Giulia Frati. Our mission is to connect strong and beautiful film projects with potential industry partners, by allowing audiences to support their favorite film ideas with votes, money or assistance. We want to create a community of mutual support, to stimulate debate and collaborative decision-making. We combine the power of both offline events and online tools. We are part of Makila, an artist run and non profit coop, we use democratic, open and cost-efficient means to achieve our goals. We keep it small, grassroots and constantly evolving!
Call for projects – Please share with your network
Open to all Canadian filmmakers and media creators, this contest offers them the opportunity to develop their documentary ideas, to access different funding models and to build a community around their projects. We are looking for documentaries with a strong point of view, that challenge our perception of reality and that are capable of engaging new audiences to the relevant issues of our time. All formats and genres are eligible. We also require that all projects integrate a transmedia strategy to enhance either their creation, financing or distribution (for example, a secondary distribution platform, a crowdfunding campaign, etc). Our aim is to give collective support to a handful of strong and beautiful documentary projects while connecting creators with the industry and their potential audience.
